Some of you may recall that for the last year or so I have occasionally made comments about the limited storage space on the TWT server being a recurring issue as a result of images being uploaded as attachments. I kept putting it off as long as I could by removing old/large attachments in long dormant Off-topic threads. But I NEVER remove images in any of the old ride reports. Also, in any reports where the author links to offsite servers for their images, the forum software grabs those linked images and converts them to permanent attachments stored on the TWT server. This way, if someone loses their image hosting site, the images are preserved in the reports. That means even more storage space getting used.
A few days ago the server finally hit a critical limit on available storage space and it was firing off automated warning messages like crazy. So yesterday I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a more expensive hosting plan that doubled the available storage space. Unfortunately, there was no option to JUST upgrade storage space only. The CPUs, RAM, and other stuff were all sufficient for the task of running the forum, but all that got upgraded as well. The upgrade is already done. It was seamless and did not require any down time. Don't ask me how they do that. It is magic as far as I am concerned. The end result is about another $700/year for the hosting service.
This particular company has been excellent. I switched over to them back around 2018-2019 if I recall correctly. It was about the same time we switched from the vBulletin software to XenForo. Their customer support has been the best of ANY company for ANY service that I have ever used, bar none. I have contacted them at every hour of the day and night, even on holidays, and they have always been incredibly fast and helpful with every issue I've ever encountered, even when it was not something on their end causing the problem. They have made my life on the back end of TWT much easier than those early years from 2003 to 2018!
Anyway, if there are any of you out there that have been on the fence about supporting the site financially, I would really appreciate any help you might throw my way. This is essentially a one person operation with the help of a few volunteer admins/mods. It is not paying my bills. I have a full time regular job for that. Any donations help keep the site running and keeps me from having to dip into the family financials to keep me doing this. It occasionally buys me a set of tires and might pay for a bike trip every few years. Without the support of our members over the years, I would have closed up shop a long time ago. So to those of you that have contributed in the past and present, I want to express my gratitude!
Hopefully, the new server plan will keep us going for years to come.
And just in case you have never noticed the link, here is where you can donate.
