Lol. Bills Woods. Looks like a tangled piece of yarn when mapped out...

I had a great time this weekend and it's really nice to be riding dirt bikes again after a 25 year hiatus.
We had 2Wheel Nut and his son Zack along with Flipit on Saturday. In some regards RRMT has changed a lot with the advent of the side x side and the trails have serious erosion in some spots. Not a bad thing though, kinda makes it interesting.

2WheelNut didn't get in to the specifics of our ride in Bill's Woods. I never knew who Bill was but he has a sadistic side for sure. Anyhow, we didn't finish it and I'm told there is 17 miles of it. We stopped a few times for breaks, cause well, Dave's 50 and I'm a gentleman. :trust: The ride was entertaining but like modern car batteries, everything is fine until it's not. We were a little tired and sore from the previous day and Bill's Woods works you constantly. So the bottom fell out for us somewhere between mile 11 and mile 12 and we bugged out. That may not sound like a lot but that took us 2 1/2 hours. :giveup:I want to go back sometime when its cool, carry water, and not be sore when I start and see how it goes.

Seriously? Not sure that sounds like fun. But I'm 68 y/o, my excuse. I need a little flow! My favorite stuff at Cycleland is in the 12-14 mph range, so still a little tight and challenging but moving!

Glad to see you in the woods again.

Glad to see you win the woods again.

I couldn't blame it on my age could I? I hit 61 in a couple of days on Cinco De MacDaddy. BTW is was mostly fun and it was really fun when
l could get some flow going but that didn't happen as much as I would have liked. I thought about you when we were riding and think you would have enjoyed the challenge.

Thanks for the thought!! You don't look or act a day over 50, so there is that!

It was an interesting ride for sure. I was riding too slow at the beginning trying to conserve energy and not really flowing well.

A lot of it was that I just didn't know what to expect and didn't want to come around a corner into a big drop or something.

Steve took the lead a couple miles in and I couldn't keep up with him. I was still riding slow to conserve energy and making mistakes. About mile 8, I decided that riding slow and making mistakes took more energy than riding faster with flow and I sped up and caught back up to Steve's pace.

It was a blast, just need to remember to ride a bit faster, wear a camelback, and maybe do it on day one instead of day two when you're still sore and tired from day one.

Oh...and cooler would be good too.

Saturday was a blast for me as well with a group of 4 and Zach and Phil riding with us. Zach and I haven't ridden there since he was about 15 and on a KX100. Was fun to ride as adults.

Phil showed us some cool single track trails that start out by Joshua tree and end over by Bill's Woods. They were pretty fun and I'll definitely ride them again.

All in all, a great weekend.

PS...I can see why people sell a 450 or 500 4 stroke and get a 250 2 stoke for the woods. It's definitely more work on a 4 stroke. Still though. I was amazed at how capable my 500 EXC was out there. Pretty cool to have a bike that I could ride from my house to those trails and still be able to ride the tight trails that well. (I say could...I wouldn't because the 90 miles there would just be boring and suck....but in a place Colorado, Arkansas or Oklahoma where dirt is in your backyard, it is really neat.)
