The Roadrunners vintage Eurobike club held their 11th annual rally at Ski Shores on Lake Austin. As the owner of (imho) a future classic Eurobike, I was compelled to attend. The fact that it was nice day to ride curvy roads to get there had nothing to do with it. :twisted:

The full gallery of pics and brilliant commentary is here. Please enter a comment if you wish, especially if you can nail the year/make/model/etc. of various bikes, since I'm new to old bikes and basically wandered the area in a generally clueless, but happy manner.

I saw Irondawg, who had his little Yammy entered in the bike show. I also saw Bluedogok and his better half, along with ? (sorry, forget the name handle, I claim dementia on this one, as usual) on my way out.

I also had a nice conversation with a husband/wife who each had a Harley. We talked bikes, gear, that other small rally ;-) (they just go to watch the parade, not ride in it), and this rally.

There were a bunch of gorgeous bits of moto-art today. I was happy, but am now kicking myself that I didn't stay longer to really soak in the various aspects of the various bikes. :pound:

Oh, holy crap, Dave, as soon as I saw you'd posted, I thought, "Oh, NO. It was Dave!" 1,000,000 apologies. I really must see the gerontologist now, for certain. :moon: :pound: :oops:
 
That Guzzi was one of my wife's favorites, but then almost everytime we walked by a bike and she said "Oooohhh, I like that one" it was a Guzzi. Too bad we missed the Breva750, it is pretty much the destination bike that she wants in the future.

The green Kawasaki is an Eddie Lawson Replica KZ1000R which was only available in 1982. There is a rare KZ1000S of which only 30 units were made, but they are awfully rare and I have never seen one in person. They were basically race outfitted for Superbike racing and sold to privateers. So there may not be many of those in existence anymore.

The bike with the gun had an "AMP Burgdorf" sticker on the headlight, I found this site for ARMY MOTOR VEHICLE PARK THUN/BURGDORF.

I like that "Airheads: Simple by Choice" sticker you found on the BMW. One of the regulars at the Ming's bike night here in Houston (actually, the owner of Ming's) has just about convinced me that I should get an old R90 or R100 if I want to get into vintage biking - they're reliable, durable, handle well for an older bike, are easy to wrench on, have good parts availability and are reasonably priced.

Rally

The Vincent Black Prince was a real treat. I've never seen one outside a magazine until the Rally. I had my Dad out there and he liked it too. I thought the Gezzi-Brian Guzzi was an incredible bike. The Norton with the polished tank and tail section, near the Harvest Classic tent, was especially nice as well. There was sooo much eye-candy!

Well, you may have noticed that I didn't make it. I came to the realization that since my wife's 40th dbay is Friday and I haven't shopped or planned the party yet that I probably should be doing that instead of checking out the bikes.

I'm probably in better shape family-wise having gone shopping, but I should would have rather been down at Ski Shores.
 
We managed to make it down. We've tried to sleep in Austin before when the ROT rally going on. Loud pipes at 0300 in the morning? No thanks. So we spent Saturday night at a great B & B, the Airy Mount Bed and Breakfast (write-up in the appropriate forum) and then came into Austin Sunday morning for the show. Sorry we missed you, Paul. But actually, you didn't miss me. In one of your pics, I'm in the background (in my TWT's shirt) taking a picture of the KZ1000R. :-) Anyway, here's a few more pics.

MPH Cycles of Houston (the best Guzzi dealer in Texas) has a used one for sale for about $5k. They were probably at Ski Shores too. They make it just about every year.

Sorry I missed it this year.
 
When I saw the dude with the Vincent Black Prince, and he responded in the affirmative to some other guy's question about having a web site and "a few other bikes", I got to wondering if this was, in fact, Herb Harris. Maybe it's obvious to others In The Know that it was; I hate being so ign'nt some times.

Anyway, if it was him, all I gotta say is :bow:

Yes that was Mr Harris and his Vincent in person - I saw him get on the bike , fire it up and ride it off around 3:00pm. I have "heard" of him through a friend in Austin that has had the pleasure to visit his house twice. He recommended to me that I wouldn't want to see that place , nothing but old perfectly restored collectable two wheeled icons lurking around in that house....

I was looking at a previous Roadrunner Rally photo gallery, and then read a comment on one of the pictures in my gallery from a Harvest Classic guy, and it turns out it's a Condor A350. Swiss, as you say, but using a Ducati single.

I gotta say, this is quite the interesting subculture lurking about in this area.

No, I just grabbed the picture after Googling around, the article I mentioned said it was Free's bike. 8-) I'm not sure, but I thought he'd sold it since then, but maybe not. Check Herb Harris's website, he's got some cool bikes for sale (for 40 large, or more :shock: )...
