Cute shot for the family album. Down the road I'm sure your son will appreciate your snipe of him sleeping.

For that kind of shot, maybe consider getting down at floor or seat cushion level and maybe a bit tighter crop/frame?
 
This is a subsequent pic in the series I took - I see what you mean about the higher angle - a couple minutes on picnik (smugmug plug in) to crop and brighten and I think it looks better then the first one

And there 'ya go! Off to a good start.

For grins, why not try bringing the brightness down somewhere between the first and second shots. That will kill the 'flash' brightness. As a nice guideline, always try to look at the skin tones and match them to reality. The rest will typically fall into place at that point.
