Sam Houston NF

On a completely different note. GST John, how do you like that 690 on the trails.?
Don't get on the trails too much with the 690. Mostly forest service roads. Quick passes to
inspect the trails. She's a little porky for my liking on the whoops....otherwise faultless. I've got
a plated Husky 350fx that I can get more serious with. Keep thinking I'm going to sell it until
I swing a leg over and love it all over again.

Thank you. I've been thinking about getting one.

Porky?. Ha. It's about a 100 lbs lighter then my bike :)

I understand...Just picked an 890 up a couple of weeks ago. Not going to let the 690 go at this point. It is
my "go to".
Don't get me wrong I've done complete loops with the 690...Rather be on a 240lb bike....I can almost be fast...lol.

Report from James Gunter

I was there. The complete comprehensive answers / explanations came out today. The USFS was good to lay it all out. Starting from its inception back in like 1915 or so. Thru the days of clear cut southern Forests and right up to today. I wish everyone could have been there for the educational factor alone. Plus she skillfully added information about the challenges we all face with regards to getting things done. For me it came across with tremendous care and skill and as far as I'm concerned nobody present at this meeting has the luxury or the credible standpoint to blast the FS nor the Coalition with negative comments regarding expedients or any other managerial topic. Mark my words.. what these people are accomplishing in this environment are certainly noteworthy on a national stage. I believe they will all be stars on that stage inspite of the forces that work to discredit them in the name of selfish inpatients and overexercised ignorance.
Lake loop
Bridge #1 got squeeked thru early enough. It is slated to be replaced. The rest of the bridges and low or shallow water crossings are in behind the timing of bridge #1. Therefor they're all subject to the added scrutiny of the Heritage survey. This survey includes many steps to be completed full circle? State agency's, archaeological inquiries which is drastically undermanned these days. The FS has to farm these resources from across state lines in order to be as quick as possible and they didn't have to take on such urgency (HELLO). Meanwhile these Archaologists have there own work load in there own state that pulls them back by emergency and we have to wait (HOW YA DOIN). Long story short. There isn't a sure time line with zero speculation involved available as of yet. Frankly there never was one. We're foolish to act as if there should have been. In light of today's report I'm convinced. Not only are these people working for our user community (including motorized) . But they are doing an outstanding job at it. I believe the Coalition as a whole does stellar work as well. With regards to motorized improved efforts. Let's pick up on that at the next quarterly. I don't want to step on any toes but there are improvements for the community and by the community on the table. In closing let me say this. If you want the facts even better than I have touched on. They are available. Your gonna have to take the time and all to get them and get more involved. If your not willing or able to do that. Let's let by gones go and let us be to do the work we also care to do for all beneficiaries present and future. Furthermore if you like or need to put up your dukes to get things done your not welcome anymore. Why? Because it's working without the fighting and if it's working with constructive criticism and a fun filled days and with a good measure of serenity and sure footed skills (which we do have going on). Then the rough and tumble old school stuff is just gonna have to melt away. Let's bring with us the best within and let go the bad. That's all and Gods got us all

Wow! It is interesting to see how setbacks like this are handled in different NF areas. With some it appears to be a laborious bureacratic process and in others it a "HAVE AT IT BOYS" process. Hope folks can work things out smoothly in the Sam H, that is some of the worst damage I have ever seen there.

Don't ride closed trails, this dude found out to the tune of $1000!

He evidently didn’t get too far on the trails as clean as he looks.

Yup … Probably one of the last people that would ever be willing to help actually get the trails open

Hey John, did I miss an email to join this work party? I want to make sure I know when/where to help :)

Another example of what the volunteers are seeing. This is from the down burst winds last week. Said like this all over the area. I did hear the USFS fire teams had been out clearing downed trees, that is an extremely big help!

I wonder what the heat index is out there about now.
It was manageable yesterday June 3rd...Got a good section of Fern and Zebra cleared. The
last tree was a beast. Big oak sideways in a corner and one of the few open spots on Zebra.
Sun was just beating down on us.
