Sam Houston NF

I rode about 50 miles on the west side today. Still had some puddles on the trails this morning and then it rained for 30-40 mins at noon.

50 miles is very impressive to this old guy. 30-35 is plenty for me now. Headed to Cycleland in the morning, 25 will probably be it. Much tougher trails and slower average.

Well made 26 and half miles. Cycleland is really beat up from the rain, deep ruts and washouts in bad places. Lots of trees down, but easy over or bypassing. That was all I wanted for today. Noon was time to go.

An almost six hour round trip and beat up trails is why I finally gave up my membership. Really miss a place to ride but it just didn't make sense for me. The trip going was ok but the long drive home got very old especially if a one day trip. The last few years I spent more time doing work days than riding.

"Saturday 7-15-23 at 9am Faceslapper workday meeting at the Eastside Trailhead. Looking at starting on Fern and going as long as anyone wants. Please respond back if you are able. Bring your tools, lots of water and a lunch.
Also doing a Eastside Friday ride if I'm able to finish up a job out of town also at 9am."

See John Maldonado, think he drives a Dodge truck, 350 KTM. Get her done boys!!

We'll be going out to " Survey" Lake Loop trail on Thursday Aug 3rd. Marking the trail and
clearing downed trees. This is, as they indicated "in anticipation of forthcoming bridge repair".
It will allow easier access for their Heritage/Archaeological study. Of course that wasn't
mentioned. Meeting at the Eastside Trailhead 8am if anyone wants to assist.

I’m sure most are in the know but I found while out today that there are a few downed trees on Fern and Zebra. One of them is a blind turn close line lol, almost got me.

I think those have been taken care of...Heather with the Forest Service cleared a bigger one. The Loggers have made a mess on Zebra
after you cross FS222...Thankfully Rob brought his hand saw.
Glad you you made it...
