One of my sons acquired a 2006 SV650 with 8k miles. I think the tires they are original to the bike. When I was still riding regularly I used Michelin. Any suggestions on what’s the best brand and model today?

I'm a pretty big fan of the Avon tires I have, current 3D-XM but they have replaced it with the Spirit ST. When the 3Ds wear out I'll replace them with Spirit STs, no hesitation. Fantastic all-around street tire.

Just another vote for Pilot Roads. They cost more but pay for themselves in longevity while still offering enough street performance for the average human. My last set of PR4s last 12k miles on my FJR.

well if you are looking for the most expensive tires then Michelin is the way to go, kid on a budget dunlop gpr-300 is a very good value

Folks will talk trash, but I know a lot of budget minded folks who have been very happy with their Shinko's. I'm one of the trash talkers who has never used them, but they have a loyal following.

That said, one of those budget minded folks has progressed in his career such that he's not as much of a penny pincher anymore, and thus he no longer uses them. Still, he was happy for a good long while.

Me? I've always bought what was on sale. I live in Dallas, which means that I don't get to corner as much as I'd like, so I want the best bang for the buck that doesn't wear out the middle too quickly.

I whole heartedly agree on the above Avon Spirit ST recommendation. Very good all around tires and way less expensive than the competition. I had not tried them prior to the current set I have on my Beemer. I ride them hard and they've not misbehaved once.

American Moto Tire has the best internet prices and they have the SV sizes in stock.

In all honesty I think it is hard to go wrong these days. It's an old SV. Find something on sale. Pretty much everything will out perform the original's. I like Roads, I ran them for years on my SM and sport bikes. Great real world tires, the honda just ate them, I'm not sure if it was the tire version or the bike. I have Corsa's now on the Duc. Some Dunlops for dual sport.

Unless it is for something special, do some surfing and look for a sale.
