We returned to US 75 and County Road 1100 to resume our Journey

The roads are long and straight and no body is home

To keep away from the food Nazi's there will be no food shots!
We did eat

We were really disappointed in the food selection on this ride. There were some good looking Cafes but not much opened on this Holiday weekend.

Crossed this cool old bridge

Then went through a wildlife preserve

More Wildlife preserve! Notice the nice fluffy gravel.

Crossed a grassland prairie . It was as green and lush as I have ever seen. The cattle were slick and fat. It looks like it is a dream year for the Ranchers.

The farming looks to be on the way to a good crop! This corn could be clogging your carburetors in a few months.:eek2:

We were getting tired of the perfectly graded roads and fluffy gravel!
We happened up on this guy and Juanita told him to take the rest of the Holiday off!

Is this the red dirt road the song is about!

This guy told me that he stays out here and pumps water day and night. Please stop by and say Howdy!

How'd those Expedition dry bags work?

What kind of saddle bags are those on the Beemer? They look pretty rugged.

Scott , the Wolfman Dry bags worked great. All of the Wolfman products do!
I would like for them to be a little bigger for my use. He had them mounted to a Happy Trails SU rack. Very sturdy and secure!

Those are Andy Strapz Panniers on the Beemer! I really like them. Made of heavy duty waterproof canvas. Simple to use and tough! I also had an Ortlieb Large waterproof duffel on the top rack.
We moteled it every night and I only used the stuff in the left side pannier. The rest was extra but you need to be prepared. It is kinda remote out there.

Kansas check!

Here is the Buffalo Ambassador! He's really a nice guy.
We did not see many people while on the trail but all of them were super nice. If you have trouble, don't be afraid to ask for help. Top notch folks!

I saw some pics of sandy loam and muddy road but nothing too dificult? Is that true or were you just to busy on the rough parts to take pictures? I have been told this trail would be too hard to take a large bike (1200GS) on. Would you agree with that?

Bob , we started at the Ms. Tennessee State line. In dry conditions most of the trail could be ridden on my 1150. There are a few spots that could be tough like Warloop Rd.in Ar, Long Canyon , Rd in NM. Most of the trail is wide open gravel roads that are used every day.
We have been lucky enough to have most of the roads freshly graded just before we rode them. That is NOT what you want. It makes the bike wiggly and the dust much worse.
If you are riding when wet I would say 70 percent of Oklahoma would not be fun on a 1200 or even a 250. It looks like it could get nasty.:eek2:

Yes it could be done on a 1200 but I think a 650 class bike would be more fun!

Nice report, looks like a couple of good bikes for the job. Looking forward to New Mex. How long did it take you guys to do this segment?

Saw tons of turtles walking or squashed on the roads in Oklahoma and Arkansas last week. Pecos helped one off the side of the road but in a more ballistic manner, with his X-Challenge...

It took us two long days from Bartelsville to do Oklahoma and 1/2 day for New Mexico!

Interesting... almost something you can do in a long weekend... maybe 4 or 5 days if you roll in travel time on each end?

We left from Paris, Tx at about 5:30 Thursday afternoon, spent the night in Tulsa. Hit the trail Friday morning at about 10:30 at Bartlesville. We then ended our TAT at Branson , Co about 12:30 Sunday . WE started home and made it to Childress by 8:00 to spend Sunday night. We were home to Sulphur Springs by about 2:00 Monday. About 4 days of riding. :rider:

New Mexico is awesome!
