Texas Monthly Top 50 Barbecue MAP???

This may come across as sexist but I don't care. I read the reports on the BBQ joints, and I must say I find them highly suspect. Did anyone besides myself notice that the majority of the articles were written by women? Now don't take this the wrong way, but if I want someone to tell me how good or bad BBQ really is, HE should be a big fat sweaty guy with grease stains all up and down his bib overalls. I just find it hard to trust the judgement of some office working, pen toting, got any handy wipes, WOMAN. Now if we are discussing decor, or how clean the rest rooms are, I will gladly differ to their judgement, but on BBQ, I still reserve the right to ask old Earl or Leroy what they think.

OK, I'll preface this by saying that

1) I ain't no BBQ expert, I know what I like.
2) My opinion includes the sauce, which is probably blasphemous.
3) I'll be talking baby back ribs here, which is probably more blasphemy here in Beef State, but there you go. Stop reading now if this completely discredits my opinion. ;)

I've gotta say that my favorite BBQ so far is the plate of baby back ribs (a frequent 'special') at the Grist Mill in Gruene. I've had 'em twice now, and the meat is incredibly tender and tasty, what with the sauce and everything.

As further evidence of the awesome prep of the meat, imho, look at this plate, and notice the lack of a need for wetnaps or a knife, as I just used the fork (OK, I used the knife to hold a rib now and again) to pull the meat off.

Maybe not perfect Texas Q by some standards, but yuh-UM! :hail: :eat:

went to Snows on a sat morning recently and bought $150 worth of q for a party at the dog ranch...it was pretty good...not as good as Smittys but worth the trip...I am planning a breakfast run in the near future if anyone is interested....Snows is in Lexington and is only open on Saturdays...opens at 8 and closes when they run out of meat....pre TM, that was about noon, now it is about 0930...

Im surprised Hard8 in Stephenville only got honerable mentions......... Thats one of my favorites as its the only one I have been to that has the 3 inch thick porn chops:eat:...... and the jalapeno corn salad might as well be desert! I went to Coopers in Llano over our memorial day weekend ride and I'll take Hard8 anyday. But I agree, there are a LOT of so-called bbq restaurants and how would they possibly have time to check them all:giveup:

Bubba's BBQ in Ennis is on Top 50 list and that can't be right. Although, it is a fine place to eat but the Que is only average.

Considering the source of this top fifty list I am suprised Luthers isnt the best , They did a best burger list a few years back , I tried one of the joints they praised , I have had better burgurs from Burger King and the only time I go there is when I need flushed out . SEYA

While I agree that the Texas Monthly list is pretty much a joke (a bad joke), I'll go ahead and be constructive by offering this link: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18750
You can download a Garmin or TomTom file with all of the places on the list as POIs. POI-Factory also has the Texas Monthly "Top Tacos in Texas" list, about which I also have extremely dubious feelings.
