Sara has asked for a "good" camera for her birthday/Christmas. She needs and wants a hobby.

Looking to spend $500-700.
Something beginner friendly that she can grow into. Will also want to get a long range lense. Trying to gather information now so I'll be able to make a good decision come November. Would be interested in used units aswell.

So, guru's. Spit yalls knowledge at me.

Very nice choice for you Samuel. I’m no expert but I used a d40 and then a d70 at work and they were great. Of course all my photos were stills and mostly horizontal.
