‘Why not start a dedicated thread’, says me.

I did my first of their series yesterday at McMahon Ranch. No kiddos, just dad this time, and it was a real good time. 3.7 mile course done in 2 30 minute motos. I don’t recall being on any trails that wouldn’t be in a TORCS race, but it was all very well put together and quite enjoyable. I like the format and will definitely do another.

I stumbled across a video of that and it looked excellent. Dirt/sand looked good with just enough moisture and the layout was nice also. Had no idea of this event, where do they post info? Thanks.

I’d bet more details are available on their fb page, but I got everything I needed to register on their website.

:thumb: :thumb: I just remembered a post about them after I posted. Not a facebook guy so having the website helps mucho! Thank you!

Forgot to mention that the atmosphere and people involved were fantastic, as I’ve come to expect from the dirtbike community. The announcer/PA/hype man was there and brought all the energy we recalled from my early TORCS days. My son will be tickled pink to hear him again.

The dirt was amazing. The long, deep sand whoops McMahon is known for kicked my butt, as expected. I only whiskey throttled the bike a handful of times, and always managed to save it before hitting a tree. Great success!

I was talking to a guy about this just the other day... he was telling me about TX2 is apparently some former TORCS folks, is that right?

I like the idea of more places to try my hand at racing. I haven't pulled the trigger yet b/c I don't even always make the TORCS races, so not sure I'd get a lot of benefit from a 2nd series 'full time'.

What I'm wondering though, they require an AMA membership, but do they have like "weekend" memberships? Say, if I just wanted to try one of their events out, could I just get the weekender deal and do the race?

There’s an obvious benefit to doing a different format, like tx2 does. Shorter motos means you can push harder without fear of gassing towards the end. Shorter laps means more opportunities to practice obstacles that might otherwise stymie someone (me). That’s my noob perspective, at least.

AMA does offer a one event option. I believe it’s $25. A year membership is $49, so I went that direction.

I first heard about the series from the Ingalsbe clan, when I sold my daughter’s 65 to them. I believe they were instrumental in its inception.

Yeah, I kind of like the idea of 2, 30min motos... change of pace if nothing else.

I do also like the one hour TORCS stuff, even though I've only completed one race (and a sweeper had to follow me in b/c I was struggling hard), lol. I am hoping I'll get more fit over time and be able to regularly do the hour.

Well, I can see that the $49 deal is a better deal, only gotta do 2 races to make it pay off. I imagine I could make 2 races a year. If the w/e membership was like 10-15, I'd do that first just to make sure I liked the setup.

It does seem like TX2 makes relatively frequent use of the riding spot out in Columbus, which is relatively close to me (hour + change).

Great to have choices of quality events. With Texas being such a large state the traveling can be a consideration. But with TORCS, TX2 and the TSCEC we are plumb blessed if you like offroad events. Due to a couple major surgeries and complications I haven't raced/ridden anything since the middle of '23. The short dbl moto format of the TX2 should be perfect for me to ease back into the fun, happy to see them in the mix. Really like the properties they have. I no longer ride for points so just pick individual events to fit my schedule.

Have watched a few vids of the TX2 races. It seems to me their courses are a little more open and fast and the trails are wide. I imagine that's due to them also doing 4-wheeler events on these courses?

I need to get in on these too, I want more overall seat time. The short format looks fun!
I have only done one, but i like how the first moto allows me to burn off the nervous energy and get my mistakes out of the way. Then I can just focus on line choices and cleaning up errors on the second. It’s beneficial to skill building, if nothing else.
Plus, more racing equals more fun!

Did anyone do the TX2 event yesterday? At least I think there was an event? I wanted to go to that, but just didn't have any spare time this weekend for any riding on either Sat or Sun unfortunately. Weather should've been pretty good.

The kids and I went. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times….

Fun event as always, despite being quite a bit of sand and moon dust. It reminded me a lot of Cole’s last fall. So much that I sat out moto 2 after several crashes in practice and moto 1.

Daughter struggled but still had fun and completed 3 or 4 laps in 85c, which is an accomplishment for her. Good stuff.

Son got to ride home to Austin in an ambulance wearing the collar. He had a big crash on the first lap of moto 2 and was knocked unconscious. I don’t believe anyone saw what happened and he doesn’t remember, but it was in a sandy corner, so I’d assume his speed wasn’t too great.

Long story short, he’s 14, fit, and made of rubber. He has a slight headache and is a bit groggy, but 10,000% better than he was at the property or at the ER. He should be back to full speed in short order.

Huge thanks to the TX2 crew for their assistance and hard work getting him and us out. I’ll be eternally grateful for their care and concern. Same to my buddy Tommy Alford who was right there in the mix. Dirt bike people are good people, full stop. I’m so glad to be a part of it.

Ohh man, that's unfortunate and I'm sure scary! My heart-rate started going up reading this. You're right though, these kids are built tough, much more than us old farts.

Prayers for a speedy bounce back.

Thank you, sir. He was still prone and in the collar when he said he’d be on a dirt bike tomorrow if he could, so I’m sure he’ll be back in no time.

On a more positive note, I got pics of both my kids this time. Also, he’s pleased as punch with the new-to-him orange 150 I surprised him with. Once he acclimates to the snappier power and lighter flywheel, he’s gonna be dangerous.

Just watched some of this weekend's TX2 racing, tough conditions but at least there was some wind. Was very impressed with the course as I have been with all their trails I have seen so far. Tidbit of info, the head TX2 duck's dad is one of the finest susp and general DB mechanic/tech's you can use. He completely corrected a bad suspension job I got from some big name "gurus" I have tried. Full recommendation for any work needed, beyond fair price and totally honest work.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the get-off, but glad to hear he's doing well and hopefully better than expected at this point. Nothing broken or out of joint I take it... so that's the best news. Soft corner, lost the front - low-side perhaps? That's how I wacked my shoulder... not even fast at all... just a slippery, muddy left-hander (in the backyard!).. before I even knew what happened... on the ground. I rung my bell pretty good too, broke my visor. I retired that helmet.

Yeah, watching some of the footage I've seen now, definitely reminds me of Cole's 'Duster' last summer... that was ridiculous. Having said that, I'd still prefer dust to wet and mud. Mud is a bike killer.

He’ll be fine soon enough, thanks. Cooler heads just need to rein him in (he was trying to lift weights yesterday before I stepped in and is bummed I’m not allowing him to attend his buddy’s bday party today). Attitude is there, body not quite.

I haven’t had time to clean the bikes yet. Not looking forward to it. 🤣

Buzz kill dad, lol. Stay on him, we see concussions all too often in youth hockey. The first 5-6 days are key recovery opportunities. It will pay dividends in near term by not prolonging the recovery.

Who’s in?
I’m planning on going and having the daughter race as well. Luke is still dealing with some headaches and sensitivity to noise and such, so he’ll be pit boss for the day. I’ve raced this property a few times in TORCS and it’s always been a blast. Luke is gonna be so bummed. 😂

Gonna be at a crawfish boil, otherwise I'd go. I keep saying I want to do one of these TX2 events, but the cards ain't lined up just yet! Y'all have fun!

Good luck to your whole crew but especially your son. Its obvious he is still very vulnerable to another hit. Dangerous time!
