TX2 Racing

@portero72 , question, looking at schedule the next race looks like it for this year? Can't see joining for 1 race.
I’d tend to agree with that sentiment. I thought they might have adopted a day pass option, but that might exist only in my head. They’re very responsive to email, though. Might be worth asking.

They have answered very quickly to every email question I have sent them. Seem to be great folks.

This is last of year, new year starts in September.

Slight chance Sunday's race may have some moisture in the ground. Cedar Creek has some good trails which the old Rockne enduro used.

I finally did one of these races. My first TX2 race on a bike I bought on the way to the race. It was a lot of fun. I rode in the Sportsman class and won both motos. Next time, I think I will try 45-C.

Congratulations, Justin! That’s a great way to start a series! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to stick around. I had some other stuff come up…🤣

On that note, and in an effort to not steal Justin’s thunder, I’ll make my own post.

Sunday was a comedy of errors for me and my crew. Where to start?

Luke was pulled off yet another course by the med crew in the first moto. He ran Open B and went from 8th at the first flags to 3rd, with leader in sight, in the first lap. Hard line (that he’d cleared twice in practice) got him, and he took a big fall, landing on his right shoulder and ending his day. X-rays all checked out, so it’s probably just a sprain. Big thanks to the med crew and the nice racer lady that gave us her arm sling. If anyone knows who that is, I’d love to pay back the debt.

Reason he was in a B class and not C as planned? Because 15 year olds don’t listen to dad when they’re told to PUT YOUR BOOTS BACK IN YOUR GEAR BAG and we had to share my pair. Thankfully we’re both a 13. Seems he probably belongs in B anyway.

Back to boot sharing. We had planned to split practice up and switch shoes, but by the time he’d finished 2 laps they were shutting it down, so I never saw the course until the first lap of moto 1. I tiptoed my way through, never really feeling comfortable on the sand and hard pack and did the best I could, which wasn’t awesome.

Pro Moto 1 started, Luke took the tumble, we packed up and left. Still had fun and look forward to a successful tx2 race, whenever that happens!

Thanks for the video, was a good one. The course looked very "flowy" and a lot of fun. Maybe it was better in person but as usual it appears trail marking is a lost art, is it just me?

@portero72 I didn't watch much of video, get motion sickness lol. But couple of things stick out. 1- am I wrong in thinking this faster/more open than TORCS. 2-doesnt look like a safe course for you to take off on without a sight lap!

What was an average lap time?

It’s definitely more open than TORCS and no, it wasn’t safe to take off in a crowded race in the dust bowl, but we didn’t get all dressed up for nuthin’. 🤣
I’d guess the pros were doing 7-8 minutes a lap and the rest of us schmucks proportionately longer.

I do like the format, but riding well just didn’t seem to be in the cards that day. The videos of that property from last fall looked epic. I can see why it was a favorite.

Thanks. Sure wish these guys would go back to longer laps, lol. Get the loops up in the 10 to 15 mile range. Traffic spread out and not near the fast guys catching you from the back. Oh well, I'm done anyway.

Congrats Justin on the double wins! That's especially good considering brand-new-to-you bike! I'm figuring we've seen the last of the Xtrainer, eh (moment of silence in its honor...).

Mark, sorry to hear about Luke's get-off, but hopefully like you say its all just sprains and nothing more serious. Kids bounce well and heal quick usually!

I keep saying I want to try one of these TX2 events. They def seem to be more open and more like a classic GP style of course. I'm horrible at that kind of faster riding though, but I guess its the same as how I see TORCS races... I'm not so much as 'in it to win it' vs 'enter to adventure'.

XTrainer will go on to train another new-to-dirt rider. It’s hard to think of another bike better suited for that use.

It seems counterintuitive but I feel like this sort of racing might be safer than TORCS. The super fast guys are going to be super fast either way. But with a wider, more open course, there’s more margin for error, more room for us slow guys to get out of the way safely, and more room for some sort of emergency vehicle to respond. All the course could be accessed by a UTV, if that was necessary. Also, with the heat we get here, two 30-minute motos works better for me than a 70-minute endurance test. I was a heat casualty when I was in the military and the onset of heat exhaustion or heat stroke can creep up quickly for me. Getting a half hour to 45 minute break to cool off between motos was great.

I can probably only afford to race once a month, so I’m probably going to focus on TX2. I think I’d still probably do the TORCS race at Spoaks because that place is awesome. I might even do the Ott Ranch race next year to chart my progress.

Don’t rule out the Wild Hare! That’s a 2 hour race over the New Year weekend. Talk about measuring progress….

Thx, James! He’s up and about, just a bit sore. He still isn’t super clear on the pain vs injury discomfort scale. He’ll get there.

Great property, didn't know we could still use Rusty's place.

Hmm! I drove right by there going home from the Powell race Saturday. I thought it looked like it could be a place to ride, had no idea it ever was such a place.
And now, looking at it on google-maps, you can see the ghost of some prior course layout.

Maybe I find out about this TX2 stuff this weekend, hmm. I'd only be able to go Saturday though for the ride-day. Stuff going on for Sunday already. Saturday isn't a lock for me either, but of the 2 days, it'd be more likely to free-up. Weather looks to be fine for the weekend... 70s on Saturday and a brisk upper 50s on Sunday for the race... hint of possible overnight moisture to fix up the course for the race too. Wow, could be epic for the racers!

I'm still sore from Saturday's race and my get-off, but I should be healed by the weekend, right?!... lol

It's not quite as good as Geortz but close! I mean it's next door! lol. Boy did we have a mudder there 1 year. In all my TORCS years, only race I stopped early and let the clock run out. lol. There is a grass track in the pecan bottoms, I spun out more than moving forward!

Yep. One section is pure clay, can be very interesting when wet. Great to see it being utilized again, many many folks have good memories of the trails and Rusty himself. :thumb:

A friend trying the adv class today. Wow
