My granddaughter, a college student, needs a car to commute to school. My wife appointed me to buy her a car.

I want to buy her a good used Toyota Camry or Corolla in good condition, hopefully in the Austin area. I have budgeted $8k for the task. Lower mileage is more important to me that year of manufacture.

Would appreciate any help in finding her a car.

I was curious what the market is for those cars and unfortunately was right.

It'll be tough to find anything with low miles under 10 years old at that price point. That's what I plugged in with your parameters and 200 miles from the Austin area.

This looks like a good option

Another option but at for a 2007 hybrid, I would make sure any batteries it has are still in good shape.

And one more

I would add a Prius to the search and here's why - Every time I get an Uber that's a Prius, those things have over 200k miles on them. I'd say they're built to drive. Could be less stress due to hybrid system, but that's just a guess. Seem like they run forever.

Honda has had their struggles over the past 25 years with their automatic transmissions with several class action lawsuits. The one pictured above is one of the affected models. Honda makes a good car, but just know what years are affected and what the fix is and what it will cost.
