Since I am planing on doing the Texas 500 with my Husky 501 I started to think about some upgrades to her. Lighting is #1, but #2 is rims. The stock rims are pretty soft and are no longer as round as they were when she was shiny new. I haven't laced up any rims in so long I think it best if I just buy some complete wheel assemblies but I don't have any personal experience with any manufactures out there. I have read a lot of good things about Warp 9, does anybody have any experience with them or other recommendations ?

By the way, I see by their web site you can actually order a rear hub with a cush drive. I have never considered this as an option on a true dirt bike, has anybody ever tried this. My gut tells me you would lose some important control like fanning the clutch, but the cush drive sure works great on the larger bikes like the 1090...

So any input is welcome (well almost any input LOL)
 
I had some Warp 9 supermoto wheels for my FE501. Very well made wheels. They had the Cush hubs and seemed like kind of a waste to me. I ended up trading them for another set of stock wheels before I ended up in the hospital... or jail.
 
Warp 9 wheels will only be an upgrade from what you have if you go with their 'Elite" series rims. You absolutely do not need a cush hub. Your clutch basket is already rubber-damped from the factory and that gives all the protection to your transmission that you need.

My advice is to go to a premium wheel builder that sells top line name brand rims. Dubya Wheels will build you a wheel set with Excel A60 rims, which are the best and strongest you can get. They are not cheap, but they will hold up.
 
Check out the tusk impact series at rockymountain for a decent budget conscious wheel.

Or if you want the best i agree with @Johnf3 get in contact with https://www.dubyausa.com/ and have them relace your stock hubs.

I would second the recommendation of the Dubya wheels, the are the preferred wheel in Motocross and as you know wheel take some serious punishment in Motocross. I would recommend the Excel A60 Rims as they seem to be the most durable.

Also I hear FasterUSA make a really good wheel and is high value for lower cost than Dubya might want to check them out also.

One other consideration: Good Aftermarket wheel sets for dirt bikes hold their value and are usually pretty easy to sell. If you build up a set with Talon or Kite hubs, and lace them to A60 rims, you have a highly sought after combo there.

Plus, KTM (Husky, same thing for your particular bike) wheels are very modular as far as fitting many different models of off road bikes. With just a spacer change (in almost every case) for the correct year you are moving the wheels to, since around the 2005 model year (for KTM--won't fit older Huskys) to present--those wheels will fit any KTM and KTM-built Husky. Husaberg too since 2005.

Many riders move their nice wheel sets to their next new bike. Or if you want to sell them, then you have a large market to sell to because the wheels are so modular. Coming from my perspective ( a heavy guy who is not easy on wheels), you really get what you pay for when it comes to aftermarket MC wheels for off road use. I have a set of Dubya wheels on my old KTM 450sxf and I can promise you they have not had an easy life, but they are perfectly round and ding-free on an 9 year old bike.
 
I had forgot about Dubya, I think they were at the KTM rally in Breckenridge a few months ago. They had some really nice stuff, not cheep, but really nice guy... Will look into this, thank you so much.
