Packing for a 5-day trip to Angel Fire, NM and back. KSU 6:00 am tomorrow.

Porting and polishing,,, yeah, anyone can do it. :lol2:
You gotta start somewhere , it might as well be something easy just make things round and smooth and polish it . I did my 86 husky 250 smoker after the first time it seized and it was a noticeable difference , im sure going up 5 sizes on the main didnt hurt any either but it was 100 plus 250 smoker after that and The bike would run with the 400 s , I was the only thing holding it back .
 
I planned to provide some entertainment about more farkling on my new 690 but need to take some pictures. Didn’t work on it today, as I decided to work on my 24 Husky 300 which has about 360 hours and has hit the stage where wiring is fatigued and breaks. The speedo quit a couple weeks ago and I assumed in was the wire from the sensor that broke, so I replaced last week it but that didn’t fix it. So today I used my basic circuit analysis skills (there’s only 3 wires here, 2 from the Hall effect sensor and one from the ecu. ) The ecu wire was good, if you start the bike the unit turns on, but then times out as it’s not getting input from the wheel sensor. So effed around and checked all the wires which lead me to believe that there was a break in the final wires going into the unit. I swear I checked the sensor and got a pulse when I spun the wheel. Tried to take the unit apart which was not happening without destroying it, there $200+. Then I went back and determined the sensor had no output. Plugged in a new sensor and ran the magnet on my little shop light over it, bing, it turned on. A close examination revealed that the magnet in the rotor was gone, but the holder was still there…the magnet is much smaller than the holder. Mystery solved! After more than a few hours of looking!
 
New 13 inch tires are balanced and on the little trailer. I need to get some mud flaps on it, may make a run to the tractor supply tomorrow for a set or a small piece of rubber mat I can cut to size.

Oil changed and tires rotated on the Rabbit. The new skid plate adds another 5-10 minutes of time to that job.
 
Got the tune from BT downloaded and installed to go along with the new exhaust and took it to work yesterday. Absolutely love it. Bike has a nice growl while cruising, but really throaty roar when you get on it. Sounds like an Italian V4 should. All the heat I could feel before on my right leg and foot is completely gone. Bike runs a little cooler. I don’t notice much performance difference below 6k rpm’s, but above that it’s a new kind of animal. Feels like you are one gear lower than you are. All in all, very impressive.

Few weeks ago I replaced the shuttle race cover on her Bernina machine - it was difficult cause 1. The Bernina dealer network makes Harley/John Deere/Tesla look open source and 2. the screws were small and difficult to reach (no the shiny ones with washers). With a little help from eBay and the gunsmith tools, $30 later she is back in business. This would have likely been a couple hundred dollars at the Bernina dealer (for added services) and about a 3 week wait.

I have the Outback up on jackstands with the CVT drained.
Torque converter control solenoid died so the valve body needs to come out.
I’m having a hard time getting motivated enough to out there in the heat to pull the pan, valve body and finish the job.
And for the CVT haters, it is over 180k miles and the first time it has given any trouble. That seems average for ‘modern’ transmissions.
 
Wrapping up maintenance in preparation for fall. Looks like I could have taken at least another month.

Intake valves were on the loose end of spec after 40k miles, now they are dead center. New OEM plugs, alternator belt, and unnecessarily difficult to replace air filter is also done.

Next up is trans and final drive fluids. I will either take a short ride to warm them up or just trust natural convection this afternoon.

Finishing up on the BMW. Amazon has a nice assortment of syringes. No idea who would need something this large, maybe for livestock? Anyway it took the guesswork out of putting 180mL of 75w-90 in the final drive.

I found one the other day that holds a liter :D. I'm glad they sell things like that because it makes some service jobs a lot easier than having to use a 30cc syringe 20 times ha. It also makes it a lot easier to draw oil samples when a big part of the volume just to get to the syringe is a length of the tubing.

Front tire on my bike, Road Smart IV, has 15,350 miles on it. Seems like it has a good bit of life yet in it. Am I missing something?

Finally cowboyed up and got under the Subaru.
I worked slowly and the duty solenoid was measuring low resistance - indicating failure. The replacement solenoid by Dorman was an exact match so no soldering needed.
The worst part of the job was refilling the CVT. My fluid transfer pump seemed to leak nearly as much as it was pumping into the CVT. 🤬
Eventually it filled and a short road test didn’t throw any lights or codes. 👍

On the Fiesta.....
Did a tire rotation and checked the balance on all of them, 3 of them needed a rebalance.
Broke the driver's front tire down due to a slow leak from a tire plug I put in on a trip a while back. It was starting to leak so I removed it and put a proper patch in.
