2014 BMW R1200 RT. I found this part under my motorcycle. I've looked like crazy and can't seem to find where it might go. I've checked all the wiring harnesses, battery box, panels, etc and I haven't a clue. It doesn't have any sticky residue, so it wasn't glued on and it doesn't have any tabs or broken tabs.

Paging BMW Bryan L the BMW name-that-part champ

Does it start? Runs fine? it ain't nothing but if you take it to the dealer they will sell you one for $100! looked like a wire loom guide that was improperly installed at the factory.

Sure. Thanks

I agree it appears to be a guide of some sort. Did you have something more than bodywork off?

Max’s BMW parts fiche is pretty complete. If you are patient you might find it by sight. If it has a part number you should be able to google it.

I use the BMW Fiche often. I haven’t been able to spot it. I didn’t have any panels off. I was greasing the final drive and driveshaft. I left it over night and this part was there the next morning. I’ll hunt some more but about ready to put it into the extra screw bucket.

D, recent maintenance is always the place to start for any troubleshooting. When I drop fasteners and cannot findd them, I get another fastener. Many years later I sometimes find them somewhere in the bike when going deep in.

I imagine even on the assembly line this sometimes happens. You may have just found the “spare”.

It does look a bit like a fuel hose routing guide. Has the tank been disturbed?

Steve

Tank has not been touched....but I like the idea of a fuel hose guide. I'll do some investigating on that. I bought a new Tahoe in 2008. It had a rattle. The dealer tightened, pulled, probed everything they could think of and still rattle. I finally convinced the to remove the front fender and low and behold, I inherited my one and only Snap On Screwdriver. Came that way from the factory.

Back before Triumph went out of business, (the car) workers would throw beer cans and bottles into the frame. Makes a rattling sound, this is the new equivalent , putting a defective cable routing inside the body panels so it falls out when servicing. it is a guide for a secondary circuit wire loom.
