For those who wish to make it on their own, this is a recipe from a friend of mine who worked for a well known Chicken Fry place In Oklahoma City for a lot of years.
Chicken Fried Steak
Cube steak
Flour
Pepper
Salt
Buttermilk
Deep fryer
I'm still tweaking the portions, but here is what I have so far (and this is for our large family. A good starting point, then you can adjust to your taste
8 cups flour
1/2 cup salt, (back before MSG was evil, we used that too)
1/4 cup pepper, I use a little more
Pour your buttermilk in a bowl
For dipping the steak into I use a square container to mix the salt, pepper and flour in
Dip your steak in the buttermilk then place it in the flour and flip it, then just start putting it on with your hands and rub it in, you can dip it in the buttermilk an extra time and repeat to make it crispier
Cook in the deep fryer for 4:30- 5 minutes, until it's nice and crispy
