I'm not so naïve to think everyone has been wondering where I've been for over two years, but some may recall I haven't posted in quite some time. Those of you who I'm a bit closer to know that JoyRider (Joyce) and I sold our home in Katy and headed west to Yoakum to start a MAJOR project. Well - that project has a name - it's San Ducerro Vineyards - and we're now open!

San Ducerro Vineyards is located in beautiful Dewitt County, just outside the city limits of Yoakum Texas. We are the newest winery on the Texas Independence Wine Trail and we'd like to invite everyone on TWT to ride or drive out to visit us. We have 7 fantastic hand crafted wines available - including 2 Blanc Du Bois (both Dry and Semisweet), a sassy Moscato, a delicious blush we call Becca's Blush, a spicy blend called Rhapsody in Red, an even spicier Sangiovese, and an awesome Cabernet Sauvignon.

In addition to our wines, we also have over 18 acres of estate of which 5 is "under vine". Come on out and see us - we're "officially" open Friday from 3pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday noon to 6pm, and any other time you'd like to drop in by appointment. We live on the property - so we're generally here all the time, call me anytime at (713) 540-3140 to arrange a private tasting.

You can also follow us on Facebook or visit the website at www.sanducerro.com (the website isn't much to talk about as it's still looking for a web designer - but it has a link to our Facebook page).

See ya'll at the winery!

I looked for a "Duc" in your sig line for bikes..... What is the origin of the name?

I'll have to make a run down and see your place.

San Ducerro is a name I crafted after ditching the original name for the project. We started with St. Mirovy, which is Czech for Saint Peaceful. We liked it, but even we had trouble pronouncing it. The correct way to say it was Mir-o-vee, but I kept saying mir-o-vay or just stumbling as I tried to say it. Joyce had trouble too, so we abandoned the name and began to look for another. I wanted something that reflected on family, so I started working with the girl's names (Rebecca and Rachael). I looked at Rocking R, and then thought about Double R. Both were ok, but not what we truly wanted. I continued to play with "Double R" for a bit, which led to other ways to say "double". That led to "duce R", which was close, but needed more kick. So I doubled down on the "R", added an "O" to the end and came up with Duce-RR-O. Now we were REALLY close, but it still needed a bit more snap. Drawing from my birthplace - San Antonio - I pulled the San (for Saint) and there you go - San Ducerro! I suppose the pronunciation should be Duce-r-o, but we like Du-Cer-Ro better! Joyce Googled the name to make sure it didn't say something awful in another language and found that loosely translated between Spanish, Italian, and French (and we do mean LOOSLEY), the name means Saint of the Hill. And since the vineyard is located on a hill that overlooks a valley, it's pretty much a perfect fit!

I'll drink to that reply! :chug:
