12/27/2016 - New toy for my wife, a Canon mirrorless camera. So I've been playing with it some. This was a few seconds long shot on a tripod with the kit lens.

12/28/2016 - Wow, the end is really in site. I finally have three ideas for Saturday. I may collaborate with Scott on one of them. Unless he already has something in mind. But for today I was at a bit of a loss. I'm really trying to avoid bugs, birds and plants here at the end. I ended up with a shot of a Christmas present from my mom and shallow depth of field.

CDC would REALLY love that shot if there were just a smudge of bug on the front of the globe... :nana:
 
Actually, it's a bat. This snow globe is typical Austin. It has flakes and bats when you shake it up. I had to take such a long expose that I couldn't freeze the motion of the floaters with the shutter and a flash just didn't work.

12/29/2016 - Took some sunrise pictures this morning with the new camera. Hated all of them. I'm still learning what it can and can't do. After seeing Scott's B&W shot from yesterday, I got an idea of a B&W shot I could do. I have only done one all year. So I came home and did some house stuff. Got a break and dug up some old star filters and figured out what lens they fit on. Then set up the tripod and camera. Spent some time working out angles, focus and exposure. Got some shots I liked and then spent some time developing them. Then I added my favorite to my collection on smugmug...only to see that I did a Christmas tree two days ago. :doh: Anyway, technically it is a better shot than the other one. In fact, the color version of this is better than the one from the other day. Either I'm getting old or this project has gotten me confused on what I've shot all year.

12/30/2016 - The end is near so I made sure I got out of the house and the neighborhood. Drove into downtown Round Rock and wandered around. Had some fun taking some shots on the tripod of their tree and some of the lights and sights. Also worked cell phone cameras for other people. Just generally enjoyed the evening. I ended up with this shot of the Baptist Children's Home. It is a HDR (3 shot bracket) photo, combined in LightRoom. Standing there listening to the Christmas music that was right out of a hymnal really added to the joy that I felt looking at the scene.

As I was telling another crazy photographer on this site, congratulations on finishing the challenge, love 'most' of the pictures and glad the bugs and flowers finally died! :trust:

One more to go. I have two planned for tomorrow. We'll see if they pan out or something better comes up. I plan to have a camera with me most of the day.
 
I've got one in the queue if needed for today, and will venture into the night tonight for a couple conceptual shots which have been rolling around in my head. Can't wait to see your final shot!
 
Well, first image opp was okay. My main choice is this evening. Braving the crowds and heading downtown for music and fireworks. Dragging my daughter to carry chairs and tripod. :clap: Means I can ride down though. Was thinking that my make parking and getting out of there nicer.
 
12/31/2016 - And we are done. I went down to the Austin New Year celebration with the hopes of getting fireworks over the Austin skyline. And I did, but I just loved this shot of Ray Wylie Hubbard. And I got it with my new lens, a Canon 100-400 L.

I was in the wrong spot for getting the fireworks over the main skyline, but I did like this shot with the reflection off the building across the lake. So bonus time.

I'm proud of you Rusty. good job young man. Last time I saw Ray Wylie was at the SkyLine Club way out North Lamar, I believe it was 1978 or 1979.

Thank you, I'm glad to be done. As far as the concert, this may actually be the first time I've seen him. I used to see a lot more performances back in the 80's, but marriage and kids cut back on that.
