My rear chock on my 1984 honda interceptor went out on me. They said a new one would cost $800 and to rebuild it would cost $400.
Does anyone know of any other alternatives?
:help:

I'd start making calls to salvage yards:

Bike Shock

Thanks for the quick response. I will try all the ideas to see which way is the best way to go.

Thanks a lot, losing your rear shock really makes for an uncomfortable ride. You feel every bump in the road.

:chug:

I'd do some searching on the net for rebuilders. $400 seems really high, about double what I've seen for other bikes. I've also known a few to do it themselves without problem, if you're a DYI'er. I've seen quite a few pages on the net with instructions and tips on the process.

Give these guys a call:
http://www.le-suspension.com/
They supposedly do wonders with stock shocks.

Another possibility:
http://www.aftershocks-suspension.com/pages/price.htm

There are lot's of other places like these that specialize in bike suspensions, and would likely do a much better job than your local bike hack.

At one point Fox made a nice upgrade shock for that bike (had one on my '84), but I would guess finding a NOS one will be quite tricky. Still if it came down to having to buy a stock one for $800, I'd sure be looking hard for a much better aftermarket one for similar price.

ADVrider has a Interceptor forum. I would bet BBQ that someone there could help you.
