Another Iron Butt Attempt

So I had a thought, why not try to do a newer IBA ride in Todd’s Honor. So I’m go to try to make it from Buffalo Wy. to the south side of Las Cruces NM in under 17 hours. It’s call an End to End Interstate, specifically the E2E I25. It’s a little over 1000 miles. So I will be trying for the Gold Level. If I overshoot 17 hours I still can get either a plain E2E or a SS1000 in his honor. I’ll getting ready to clock in and I will put a marker when I hit the I25 Required starting point.

Giddy Up

WIND IS BRUTAL!!!!

I think you're bringing it with you. I hear we're supposed to have 35mph winds in the front that's coming through next.

Hmmmm....
45 min after refueling in Raton the Spot tracker died right at midnight your time. If there were multiple pings from the same location I'd say there was reason to be concerned, but it was just a single ping and then nothing else. I know on my old SPOT I had to restart it every 24 hours - learned that the hard way on my BBG attempt - perhaps the same thing happened here.
He also had a two hour span in WY with no pings at all.

I’m clocked out just north of Anthony NM. Had about 56 minutes left on my 17 clock for a Gold E2E on Interstate 25. It measured 1067 GPS miles. It was the toughest 1000 miles I’ve done.

The winds from Buffalo Wy., to about Colorado line were a constant 30 with gusts to 45mph directly of the mountains. The smoke was so bad it blocked the sun. Also I figured I rode a minimum of 50 miles of 1 lane interstate between the 3 states. And then, do to my spur of the moment decision to attempt this ride, BAM! Friday rush hour traffic.

Anyway I’m standing in the parking lot wondering? Hard to get a motel this time of day.

Actually that’s Chief Crazy Horse Monument

Here’s a link to my findmespot. The E2E starts way up north with the box #103. It appears it tracked correctly. The link I posted this morning was my SWConnect, SUCKED!

Shouldn't be. They should be used to tons of truckers timing out on their allowed driving time. Granted, a lot of them will bunk in their trucks, but there's got to be others that want a quiet, comfortable place for the rest period.

Hmm...
Never really thought about this. Most hotels have a 3pm check-in and 11am check-out.
So what happens when a traveler checks in at 8am for a one night stay?

I don't know the answer to that specific question, but I have checked in at 5-6 am and as long as I was out by 3 pm they only charged me for the one day.

Made it home this evening. I decided to ride through the Davis Mountains to spend some time off the interstate. It was wonderful, nice temperatures, NO wind and apparently the elk are thinking love. Nice ride up and over and to Fort Davis. Turned south to Alpine, 118 is a great road. However, I had a small issue.
