I got the impression that this lady knew very little about cameras, she knew just enough to get the pictures she liked. The camera has a pretty high shutter count so she probably just bought something new and replaced it...to my advantage.I use the back focus option on my D7200 and D750. I like having the focus decoupled from the shutter release. It also makes it easier for me to track a moving subject and keep it in focus. I guess if I ever sell my cameras I'll need to mention that setting to the buyer if they are unaware. I would have thought a factory reset might have been tried on the one you bought before she sold it
