"Traveling" w/ a gun

Even if open carry were legal in Texas, I'd much prefer to keep my pistol concealed. Open carry just has too many liabilities and too few advantages, IMO. Very much a personal choice issue and seems to vary with personality.

Exactly. I have an acquaintence that's an HPD officer and he nearly always open carries when off duty. Once I get my badge I sure as heck wouldn't. Open carry only makes the sheeple nervous, meanwhile the badguys know exactly who to target first.

I wouldn't mind making open carry legal for CHL'ers...mainly so that if my shirt is accidentally caught on the grip and somebody accidentally sees it I'm not in trouble. Although I'm always very careful about that.

Wow, Sandy, what a story. Thanks for sharing it. I am bad about getting complacent and forgetting to carry, or having my weapon in the vehicle but not really handy if I need it. Stories like yours remind me why I carry in the first place, that bad tnings can happen anywhere in a hurry, and I will NOT be a willing victim!! Thanks again. Having that pistola in my waistband gives me a warm fuzzy feeling....

I promise I'm not trying to Monday morning quarterback, klrno2, more just trying to understand the situation and work through it for my own mind.

I've never had to draw down on somebody, but wondering why when the perp came back the second time, your husband gave him a pass, so to speak.

Four bikers (but no monkey) went out and did some travelling with guns today. Was a great day, trying all kinds of handguns and long guns. I'll get the pics posted up, but I think they will fit better in one of those "gun porn" threads than on here.... hehe

That's a perfectly understandable question Tracker, and one we've been asked many times. The fact is, it was dark, my husband was aiming at the perp with a 9mm handgun (known for over-penetration), there were houses in the background with kids sleeping in the front rooms....it just wasn't a 'safe' shot to take. Besides, it turned out that all the perp needed was a second look at my husband drawn down in a full Weaver stance to be sure that he didn't want my Mustang THAT bad. :eek2:

I'm glad that no shots were fired that night...I'm glad that my husband doesn't have to live with having had to shoot somebody, even a worthless criminal. I'm also glad that he scared them bad enough that they turned themselves in to the law the next day. ;-)

I'm also glad that I didn't have to shoot somebody, and although I now carry a weapon, when I go out at night, I also bring along a German Shepherd dog, or two. It's a proven fact that criminals are looking for a soft target, and a lady with two 'cop dogs' does not look like a soft target. :lol2:

Another nice benefit of a CHL is that the gunshop doesn't have to call in for a fed. background check during a firearm purchase. That can save from 20 minutes to an hour depending on how busy the feds. are.

 ...Tons of gun talk - now, back to motorcycles

This from a scooter guy. :lol2:

Welcome to the forum.

In NM, it's an open carry state. And there is no problem with you carrying in your car because they consider it part of your residence.:eat:

Guilty... hahaha

Thanks!

Has anybody had experience with Bersa handguns, specifically the .380? I know a LEO who carries one for backup as do others in his department. I have shied away from .380's but I like the feel of this one and I figured with the right loads it would be ok. If it's good enough for the LEO it's good enough for me. Any problems/concerns with Bersa?

That is my wife's CHL. The newier Bursas have a lock on the side of the gun, I think that is great. I have only been able to do it with my wife's bursa, (my dad, father in law, mother in law all have them too) but if I squeeze the trigger very, very slowly it will not fire. I can get it to do it every time. But my wife has never had this issue. She loves the gun.

I've got one I picked up a while back because I'd heard they turned out a decent little gun. I must have caught them on a bad day, though. The rear sight was off-center in the dovetail, and the front sight post was crooked. I still need to get around to getting that corrected. I wish I'd noticed it in the store before I paid for it.
