Sam Houston NF

Popped an abdominal hernia Monday doing the stands at our football stadium to stay in shape. Ain't riding no where, hurts to even think of starting my CR. And no elective surgery unless it develops a "strangulation" situation. Bummed!

If you just have to ride and risk it, Sterling Ranch is still open. Montgomery County doesn't have SIP yet.
Montgomery has SIP, but both Sterling and 3 Palms are staying open. Always call before you haul. Things change quick.

FYI, Forest rd riders, Trinity county is now SIP, Walker isn't yet. We are now in Walker, FYI.

This would be a crusher if they do this in SHNF, wow, August!

And golf courses are still open.
Partially, the judges order here said to close and both of them closed on Thursday then the big private said they got a "clarification" that they could be open?? Noticed yesterday there was a bunch of folks playing and very little distancing. But probably only 1 player per cart. Frustrating how the rules are applied.

That's slightly more lenient than when Nobama had his temper tantrum about his ACA not passing and shut everything down. Even land owners were in violation if they stayed home. I spent the week with a friend who lives in the bounds of SHNF, fully armed. Sat around watching movies, drank and played guitar the whole time. Had a visit one time from the warden but he never came back. It was clear my friend and his wife were willing to stand his ground so, not worth trying to enforce. Word was only a few people left voluntarily before the warden made his rounds. No one else left or was hassled about it. But it's a clear case of why the 2nd amendment exists.

125 miles on those old bikes. Most enduros now top out at 55-65 miles on modern equipment.

And don't even have to think. The enduro camp area at Memphis was very nice especially after a hot day on the trails.

Have never ridden SHNF. Where is the best place to go for trail info, rules, best area to start out, permits, etc.

Good info but doesn't seem to mention spark arrestor requirements or the 18 dollar state ohv sticker available at Huntsville's Big D Yamaha or Conore's Cycle Shack North.
Are you riding the 650? Can be done but big bike for the trails. There are 4 trailheads, all accessible from FM 1375 out of New Waverly heading west. Signs on hi way, first on eastside of lake and 3 on westside of lake. The ones on westside are all on same dirt road, one to your left and 2 to the right. Plenty of signs. They have good maps at most trail intersections when you're in the woods, nice touch. Don't forget they are 2 way trails, so stay alert, especially on weekends.

Here's a pretty easy breakdown of requirements
